Alice Horton's Donuts

Who doesn't remember the  scene in Days Of Our Lives, where Alice Horton tries to get Roman out of jail by distracting the guards with her delicious donuts? The actress who played Mrs H. actually did bake these. I have been watchig this soap for over 28 years now and it is still my favorite especially after the demise of Another World and As The World Turns. So without further ado......

Alice Horton's Donuts

2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
5 tbsp melted shortening
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups flour, sift before measuring
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 stick butter melted
cinnamon sugar   ( 1 cup sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon)
-in a large bowl beat eggs until foamy, gradually adding sugar, beating constantly.
-stir in milk shortening and vanilla
-sift together flour, bakig powder and salt
-add to the wet ingredients mixing well
-cover and chill 30 min to 1 hour
-preheat oven to 450
-spray baking sheet with pam
-roll out or pat the dough on a lightly floured counter to 1/2 inch thickess
-cut with a donut cutter, place the donuts & holes on baking sheet about an inch apart.. Bake 10-15 min until -golden brown
-brush each donuts with melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar to coat all sides
-makes 36 donuts
